Early Access Guides Opinion Poll

As part of our initiative to double down on quality, all of our guides now go through a rigorous quality assurance process before getting released to customers. Since the launch of Legion we’ve been using this process to draft, polish, and test each guide to make sure it achieves the highest quality standards before releasing them, but this can come at the cost of speed. Many of you have been writing in to us wanting access to these guides sooner. As a result, we’d like to hear your thoughts on whether we should make these “works in progress” guides available to users. You can weigh in with your thoughts by participating in our short opinion poll via the link below:

I do like the idea of letting the work in process to be released, with that though I think it would be a good idea to let us give you feed back if there is an issue. Having more people using the guides and giving feed back will allow for a guide to be completed faster as there are more of us than your folks. Possibly you could have some of the people that are testing the works in process could be looking into our feedback to you. I think it would be a good idea to have an option to turn these works in progress off if we would like too. Just my two cents.

I think this is very circumstantial. You obviously want to be on pace with your competition in getting products to market, but you can’t sacrifice quality since this is a paid product and not a free addon. My idea for rapid development would be to offer a month of free access to selected beta testers in return for their feedback. Having played through the campaign without a guide at launch, I can say the guide has been fantastic for leveling my alts and the travel, auction, and mail tools have replaced some of my free addons. Keep up the great work, and keep the surveys coming!

Let us help you. Put a way for us to tell where we find a problem as we use your “works in progress” it will get us going in the right direction and we can help you “polish” them up.

I would think that you wouldn’t want to release a product until it’s finished. As a company, you want your best product presented.. Maybe a better idea would be to assign users as “beta testers”.

Opt in. I’m willing to be a participant in an unfinished product. Happy to provide beta-type feedback, correct coordinates etc. The alternative for me is to figure it out on my own; or wait. I like having whatever there is and being able to contribute. Having said that I still think there should have been a framework developed during the beta for professions that could be built upon; as opposed to “we’ll wait until release because things will change.”

Thanks for seeking our opinions and being open to the feedback. You knew this was not going to be all roses and did it because it was the right thing to do. Hat tip

The whole factor that drew me to Zygor was community. You were one of us, passionate about Azeroth. It was this that told me that I could trust you, that lifetime updates MEANT exactly that.
Unfortunately, you reneged on your part of the deal DESPITE my supporting you. You want to force me down the never ending treadmill that is subscription, if I want to see your new content.
Good luck. I wonder how many 1000’s of customers feel the same as I do? Shame on you Zygor.

We still remain steadfast in our commitment to players. Our policy regarding “lifetime updates” has not changed. Any guide that you purchased for a one time fee is still receiving updates when changes or fixes are needed. If you’re missing updates for the content you purchased please let us know and we’ll make sure to figure out why you’re not getting the updates, or, if we don’t have the content yet we’ll make sure to get it added asap. The only thing I can think you mean is if you purchased a guide during previous expansions and you are now expecting the Legion content. The policy has always been “lifetime updates” up to the expansion you purchased. You can extend this to new expansions by upgrading your guides for a small fee. No one is forced to go subscription, it’s simply another option.

Seems like you are having difficulty keeping up with the changes in the game and that is understandable. But guides are ok Was disappointed in my purchase of the guide for professions and their were no professions felt like I was cheated. Should have waited in complete guide until it was finished preaching something that does nothing is depressing but slowly they professions are appearing. Feel like I should get the guide I don’t yet own for free considering It was not their when I paid for it. Please next time don’t put it up until it is finished to purchase or at least until it is started. Also disappointed in the Professions guide does not show me how to do anything but get started. Not max level and guide is over. SAD.

What more are you wanting from the Profession Leveling guides besides reaching max level? It sounds like you may be wanting to know how to make money with your professions, but we actually created a separate Gold and Auctions guide that walks you through this.

I don’t do dungeons or raids and in the old style of Zygor I could just buy what I needed. Now I had to purchase everything for WOW. It is a pain but the questing content is solid

    Thank you.

The one time fee model is still available. You don’t have to purchase everything, it’s simply one option. The standalone guides can be purchased from within the Members Area as long as you owned at least 1 standalone guide before we switched to subscription.

I am up in the air on this. I love the polished guide, because I am still going through everything. I think whatever decision that Zygor makes will be the best decision.

The only thing I asked for is to be able to search for a quest name in the guide. I have not been able to get it to work and I am not sure if it is an option or not. I end up with quests that I acquire, and I get totally lost. Zygor helps me find the way.

    Thank you

There is no option to search for a quest name. The guide isn’t meant to be a guide for doing every quest in the game. Instead, we focus on making the best use of your time and doing things as quickly as possible. So for example, our Leveling guide takes you on an optimized route of the fastest quests that earn the most XP. This means leaving out many quests which are not needed and slow down the leveling process.

Accuracy first. I have not found any reason to get updates faster than I currently receive them. It seems to me that the current Zygor method of releasing new or updating old content is right on the money. Sure, there are still errors, but they are few and Zygor is quick to fix them.

While it would be good to get access to “beta” guides, it really isn’t going to help much if the cause of issues is attributed to the entire Zygors package.
A modular approach i believe would be the way to go if you are going to allow access to these early release updates as it would greatly help pinpoint trouble spots.

I agree with Ray. The guides are great, but nothing is ever perfect. If a big patch comes out like 7.1 did I would prefer to have the unpolished guide to help me through the newer quests on toons that are progressed enough to use it. But having the option to turn it off would be a huge plus!

‘Beta’ or ‘works in progress’ would be a nice option for us – and it could even help in your development with earlier feedback from the community. At the end of the day, I’m happier waiting a couple extra days/weeks for an accurate and polished release – but if I know it’s a beta, I’m good with having some issues that I can let the developers know so they can fix and make the final release just that much better.
