    Fishing question

I know Zygor hasn't released your updated Legion profession guides, at least not all of them, like the gathering of mines and herbs.

That said, I have a question that hopefully someone can answer. Every other profession besides Fishing has some method to get skills 1-800 for new characters. For example, Archeology has a Legion training on the Dalaran trainer, while Mining and Herbalism start out that way.

For Fishing, it seems to be the old method. I capped my skill at 75, then had to learn to increase to 150, so on and so forth.

According to the Wowhead Fishing guide, Marcia Chase in Dalaran should either train you or offer something to buy that unlocks the maximum skill of 800, but I see nothing on my Demon Hunter.

What am I missing? I have fished up the book for tracking fish.

They are referring to her as being the trainer that will teach you to go from 700-800 when you get to that point in the skill levels.

Wow, so fishing is the only skill that is exempt from the "Legion rule" where there is a method to learn it on a new character, and the max skill become 800 (you still start at skill level 1). That truly sucks.

Actually, based on what I've seen for everything else, you don't even have to play a new character, you could be switching skills on a previous character and while you'd start at skill 1, your maximum would be 800. No need to go back to trainers every 75-100 skill points...

Anyway, thank you for looking into this.

I believe fishing is intended to intentionally be a time-sink and somewhat 'old school' in its grindiness. It was always thus (believe it me, it used to be a LOT worse than it is today.)

I think they don't bother with the big jump like that for the fishing skill because you can stand beside any fishing trainer and go from 1 - 700 without moving.

Fishing is the easiest profession in Legion to cap.

Each rare fish gives 5 or was it 15 Fishing level for throwing it back into the water and you normally catch 5-8 on 1 bait.

I tried fishing in the new floating fishing island by the newly moved Dalaran. My char has a level one fishing skill and every cast was with the message missed catch. Which in turn produced no increase in skill level, unlike fishing in your Garrison. Am I missing something?

I believe that spot is an area for a fishing quest. You have to be level 675 i think to fish there. It's a long quest but the reward is a really cool looking water mount called the Brinedeep Bottom-Feeder. Long quest because you basically catch a fish then give it to the guy there. comes to around 800 catches to get the mount.

I went from 1-800 fishing rather easily and quickly, you can get legion part of fishing at 675 fishing. Key is finding the rare fish, getting the lure required to catch rare fish. Each rare fish gives +5 to fishing, and got the artifact for fishing.

To get this artifact you need to meet the following requirements:
                  Level 110

A fishing level of 800. You'll more than likely have this done by the time you finish the achievement below.
Obtain the Bigger Fish to Fry achievement.
(Optional) To earn this achievement, you must catch 18 different rare fish scatted throughout the Broken Isles. To do this, you must first catch rare bait and then use this to catch the rare fish. The drop rate of the rare bait can be quite low, but once you catch it you can usually catch the relevant rare fish every time(at least with the drop rates on the beta anyways). To make things easier on yourself, you can increase your chance to catch the rare bait by visiting Conjurer Margoss. He will sell you an item to increase the chance of acquiring the rare bait by a substantial amount. You need to catch drowned mana to get the lure from him. This can be caught on the floating fishing Island.

                  Bigger Fish to Fry

We'll start here as it is certainly the most involved of the three requirements. It can take quite a while to complete depending on your luck. As mentioned above, for the most part the process goes like this:

Catch a rare bait by fishing anywhere within a zone Use the bait to get a 2 minute buff that gives you a chance to catch a rare fish
Fish up the actual rare fish within your short, 2 minute time window

After your 800 and have the artifact pole, each rare fish gives +50 artifact power towards the fishing pole.

Conjurer Margoss has items as well, but those are based on reputation with him, and are totally seperate than the fishing mentioned above.

You could have just linked to the WoWHead guides instead of copying it word for word. http://www.wowhead.com/guide=4498/th...shing-artifact

I want to know if this was broken now. I just started from scratch (after many many years of WoW) on a new account and decided to check out fishing. I clicked on the 1-600 and it would loop over and over. It would start me in Silvermoon City, then portal and another portal to Org.. It was a endless loop. I finally gave up trying to troubleshoot it by hitting next or back. I decided to just go to a newbie zone and start fishing. The only thing I can think might be a bug is my 1st character is a Mage so there is portals.

I tried it on my Horde Demon Hunter standing in Orgrimmar without fishing skill and it seemed to work.
The guide told me to go to the trainer in Orgrimmar to learn fishing, then buy a fishing pole and a bait and start fishing in Orgrimmar.

Please check the guide version number in the game, in the lower left corner of the guide selection window. I checked with 6.0.14611.
Older guides had a problem with the travel system sending you in a loop after using teleports or portals.

Is even the current guide version sending you around?
And is it only the travel system that causes the problem? If you rightclick the arrow you can use the re-check route function to force the travel system to recalculate the route.
Which step are you on, what is your fishing skill and where were you when you loaded the guide?

Did you try with all other addons disabled to see if it still has the odd ball routing trying to happen?

A couple of notes that haven't been mentioned:

For some the profession trainers are not showing "available" items by default. Click the box in the upper right corner when interacting with the trainer and check "available" and "not available." This may be a UI issue or a problem with addons. I missed out on the initial training in areas like fishing, first aid, etc. Even when checking those boxes, the next time you go back you'll have to click the boxes to show up again; they don't stick.

For those people looking for the artifact fishing pole, the mount, or bulk arcane lures on the above mentioned island, you'll want to check for custom groups in the looking for group UI. There are steady groups running. They are almost constantly popping the water elemental that spawns upon using a toss back item you can fish up. When he's killed there's a brief time where you get the drowned mana (or two) and any fish from the expansion on each cast. People in the group have estimated that with a good sized group you can go from 700 fishing and get 800 and the rep to buy the mount in 4 or 5 hours. Either way it speeds up the process and adds an element of fun.

                              Cheers,
                              Toltec
