    Zone Scaling

With the announcement of zone scaling coming in 7.3.5, how will this affect the current guides?

    #2
It should not have too much of a noticeable effect on the guides. For the most part they will still be the same guides, just there will be no need to suggest going to a new zone or quest hub early.

What about when it comes to the various expansions? BC and WotLK will both be 60-80 and Cata and MoP will both be 80-90 zones.

That still won't really affect the guides. As I said before, it really will only eliminate the need for the guides to be suggesting to go to a new zone early while leveling. Yes you'll still see something when you hit 60, 80, 90, etc. but they're not changing the quests or the zones so the guides largely will be unaffected.

Although you say that this will not affect anything. You quote all over your site that you help people achieve 110 in the fastest time possible. This route is likely to severely change based on certain zones now being available. Are you really not going to change or adapt anything to suit this? I'm asking out of curiosity.

@car023.. If you are asking will we be changing the leveling routes (i.e. which zone to go to next) after the zone scaling is live, there really will not be a need to do so. Since every zone will give you the same XP (for a larger level range) there will be no advantage gained by going to one zone vs. another zone.

You can setup a 2nd installation directory in the desktop client settings so that it will put a copy into your PTR install. Keep in mind that we do not support PTR with the guides, there is no guarantee that they will work on PTR, and please do not report bugs you experience on PTR with the normal guides. Also, since you will be using the normal guides on PTR they will act exactly as they do on the live servers if they are working which means you will not see any changes for things like the zone scaling. And before anyone asks, no we do not distribute any test versions of the guides for customers to use on PTR.

You only use the one main client. Open your client that you use for your normal game installation. Now click the gear icon at the bottom right and then click into the Game Installations section of the settings. You will see the WoW and ESO game installation directories now. Underneath the WoW game directory click on the "+ Add new Installation Directory" and then you point that to your PTR installation. When you are done with that you will then see 2 WoW directories there, the normal game directory and your PTR directory. Now when the client does updating it will place a copy of the guide files in both the normal game directory and in the PTR directory.

Also a reason for the guides not changing much is that it probably would be difficult to re-route almost all the zones as you have to take that into account which is the "fastest" way to level. some zones might have a lot of quests in quick succession so without having to re-do it all just taking out the suggested zone and completing each guide as you want is the best approach.
