You can make some gold doing dailies but it's not going to be a lot. On average I'd say you would only make a few hundred gold per day max.

Those gathering professions are a good way to make gold because the items you gather with them are always being sold on the AH. Also limiting yourself to a few items like that will allow you to learn the ebb and flow of the market around those couple items which will in turn allow you to make better money off them as you learn which days are best to sell and what pricing range is best to sell at.

Yeah, cloth will normally sell well also.
