Efficiency Update Now Available for Alliance Classic Guide

by (4 years ago).

The Alliance version of the Efficiency Update is now available for Zygor’s World of Warcraft: Classic guides. This restores the Alliance guide back to the extremely popular and well received version of the guides used during the Vanilla days of WoW.

The biggest difference between our Day One release is that the Efficiency Update is focused on taking the most efficient route to power level your characters, and will no longer have you travel long distances to other zones in order to replace grind spots with more quests, or do extra quests in the low levels to get you much higher for later sections, both things intended to make the guides more casual friendly but which ended up making them feel less optimized.

We’re confident the new guides will feel much better now and will actually require less grinding at times as you’ll now be instructed to kill more yellow enemies than greens.

The Efficiency Update is now available in Version 1.0.20932. The Horde Version already received the update last week.

What about the option to use both versions of the guides?

The Efficiency Update is objectively better and actually requires LESS grinding. The Day One release is a slower, less optimal guide experience and continuing with it would require us to maintain two versions of the guides and deal with double the customer support issues, all of which are resolved in the Efficiency Update. It was more immediately crucial that we get these guides updated to address the concerns, but we will add in some alternative zone guides for people who prefer this as an option in a future update.

I have to say, while effective from lvl 1 to 60, your guides are terrible if started at anything over level 15. My first toon I was already around lvl 30 and it was basically dead-ending me on chain quests till level 40-45. Even up to the 50s, as I didn’t touch the Raceway.

It cleared up at last and I got back on track, but there should be solid break points OR a “check chain status” point. For example: I level to 30 and grind to 40 through SM (gimme that silk). If I were to use your guide, it would take 10+ levels to straighten out.

Also wouldn’t be a bad idea for a dungeon prep guide. There’s some SWEET exp, items, and numerous class/profession quests involving dungeons.

It seems like putting quest pre-requisites into this guide would be a good idea for the many of us who are starting this guide not from level 1. Plenty of times I’ve been sent to an NPC to start a quest only to find that because I did not do a quest earlier in the guide, the quest is not available to me. This particularly happened a lot in Darkshore & Wetlands.

I’m going to be honest with you , I’m currently at level 42 by following your leveling guides. So far it’s a miserable experience and I can’t recommend it. The switch to the efficency update out of nowhere with no option to revert back left me with a lot of can’t do all the parts of the quest situation making it even less efficient.

You guys even stated in a post that some quest orders are important since there are a lot of quest chains and you must do them in order, then out of nowhere you do this efficiency change and completely screw up everything in my guide progression.

Still a lot of traveling and still leads to notoriously suboptimal quests, especially when the zone is crowded. I end up in dungeon cleave groups and only do 2/4 of your guides since most of the quests are time sinks and waste of energy.

For leveling there are more structured guides out there that involve traveling short cuts, secondary professions, main weapon/wand progression, class quests, alternative methods when the zone is overpopulated. This all skill level every class motto you have feels like a lazy excuse to skip all this.

So far I’m very disappointed, I’m hoping for a decent gold making and other level 60 focused guides. I think you guys underestimated the returning players due to Classic and didn’t put enough energy into making your leveling guide Classic ready and on par with the “competition”.

I abandoned WoW 4 years ago, cuz it started to turn in “let’s kill big baddies to get better equipment for killing even worse baddies to get even more superpuper equipment”. Past game level hard earned or crafted violets turned to be less effective then next level greens. Now you think I returned to game for reaching lvl 60 in one month and spending a year for AhnQuiraj farming? Definitely not. However, I will appreciate any help with detailed questing, hidden quests, long chains. No race for Ahn Quiraj mount, but – how to gain Atiesh; something like that.

Update seems good currently, only been able to use it for a few hours atm though.

Any chance that we will get dungeon guides that go through all the prequests required at a later date?

The update is utter trash. It’s more or less the same old guide but now with zone titles instead of level ranges.
    Wetlands 30-30 is 4 steps.
It’s not “Wetlands”, and takes you through the wetlands quests and area – it’s just the old guide broken down into which zone it’ll take you to for 5 minutes, which was the same problem as the old guide.

    Really disappointed.

It is not the old guide, but you’ll need to use it further to see just how different it really is. The Day One release involved tedious traveling to other zones to do more quests in the lower levels, which is now gone. Now, as for the change in the guide titles, yes, they have been changed to reflect the zone you’ll be questing in, but there is still a lot of bouncing between zones throughout different level ranges. This is because of the design of the game. In Classic, you don’t go to a zone and do all the quests there and you’re done with the zone. Instead, you’ll often do some quests in a zone for a while, then run out of stuff you can do, go somewhere else, and then later come back when more quests in that zone have now unlocked or you’re at a higher level to accept them.

Will there ever be a version of Zygor for Classic WoW that supports the completionist approach? For instance, I’m not in a rush to power level. For me the enjoyment in WoW Classic is about the journey. I want to finish all quests in each zone and read the dialogue to learn more about the story. Once I’m 100% done with a zone, then and only then do I look to do the dungeons. I also level professions while I’m leveling up and would like Zygor’s in game help there, just like the retail version of Zygor. As an “older” player, I’m less concerned with leveling speed and more focused on playing the game in a very deliberate and complete manner. I suspect that long term, this will be a significant portion of your user base for Zygor in Classic WoW as the speed levelers in the beginning will move back to retail. People like myself on the other hand are playing classic exclusively. I’ve used Zygor for years in retail and really loved it because it helped me make sure I didn’t miss anything! Right now, in classic, I’m using a free version of Questie instead of your tool because Questie helps me better accomplish completing all quests in each zone where as Zygor yanks me all over the map. I’m a paying subscriber to Zygor because I want to support this quality addon. I even kept paying for it for several months when I wasn’t playing retail just to continue to support your product. Thank you and I look forward to hearing the long term plans for Zygor Classic.

Most likely no, as we’ve never been about being a “completionist” guide in our companys entire history, however, with our Elite service, and Classic not needing continual updates, it’s at least possible that we’ll consider this at some point.

I am disappointed in the new guide, I do not want to run dungeons to get myself one or two levels higher as you suggest, I just want to quest at the appropriate level for my character without dying continually because you have sent me to an area too high for my level, a choice would have been nice.
I will come back to Zygor when I am at a higher level.

No, we will only maintain one version of the leveling guides. With the update, they’re only really different in the low levels, and the effect is much less traveling back and forth between continents. The rest of the guides are almost identical, with only the level you complete quests being slightly different. If you find it too difficult, just run some dungeons to get 1-2 levels higher than the guide tells you to be, and you should be smooth sailing.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa wait a minute, when I asked if people who paid for the original vanilla 1 to 60 leveling guide we’re going to get this for free I was informed that this guide no longer existed as it was replaced by the cataclysm version (which you charged us for as well) and now you’re telling me that it not only does this guide exist but you have actually re-implemented the guide back into service? So now I have to pay a subscription to access a guide that I already paid for?

The addon was completely rebuilt to work with Classic (it’s not the same addon as retail, despite the appearance), with many features that simply did not exist in our original product. The guides were completely reworked, and still continue to be, to have more detail, travel lines to help navigate you around more easily, and to try to further optimize the questing order. Additionally, we will be adding many guides that were simply not available from us over a decade ago.

As always, we appreciate your support, back then and now, but this is a completely different product than what was offered by us almost 12 years ago. All of this requires thousands of hours of work from all of our full time staff, which requires a lot of money to fund, as you may imagine. We try to offer all of this for a small monthly fee, which is very affordable to most people.

Dark shore is not right from the start. Step 3 tells me to turn in to oha (ms), so I traveled to him (long walk), but nothing to turn in and no quest, I tried step by step, but nothing matches up. Help
