Patch 12.1 is here and season 2 beginning in just 1 week on the 18th of August, it’s the perfect time to make changes to your UI and addon setup. So we will be running through 9 must have addons for you to add to your setup that are the typical suggestions of DBM, ElvUI etc.<\/p>\n\n\n

Ellesmere Standalone Bags<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If like me you are in a constant battle of swapping your bag addons to try to find the forever bag then look no further. The Ellesmere UI is a true labour of love but not everyone want’s to install a full UI package, thankfully various parts of this UI also come standalone and the bags are no exception to this. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bag addon itself is large, well organised and comes with various options allowing you to tweak it to your expectations. <\/p>\n\n\n

There are three main options for your bags, the default setup gives you a large, clean and organised game that is separated into useful categories such as gear, consumables and trade goods. You can also create your own categories and assign specific items to it and has a recently looted and pinned items section at the top to quickly see your most used items or what you just picked up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next type is OneBag, this combines all your bags into one but retains the useful pinned and recent sections. The final type is the multi-bag option which keeps your bags separated by the bag names if you prefer to use specific bags for specific things.<\/p>\n\n\n

It comes with a range of options too, from resizing, merging duplicate items into one stack, showing certain currencies and even separating items by expansion. <\/p>\n\n\n

And EllesmereUI has other various stand alone components that i’d recommend you take a look at for your UI. <\/p>\n\n\n

Peavers Performance<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Patch 12.1 has areas with high mob density and tons of particles and effects that may impact your FPS. Ensure you have stable performance in raids, M+ and general gameplay is key and that’s where PeaversPerformance can help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The addon gives you a quick way of swapping between different optimised graphic presets, from highest quality possible to bare essentials. This saves you time from having to scroll through your settings to tweak what’s needed and removes the complexity of understanding what the settings impact.<\/p>\n\n\n

It also have the option to work automatically based on the content you are doing, if you want your outdoor content to look great and are willing to take the FPS hit but want to ensure smooth performance in raids, then with PeaversPerformance you can set it so certain profiles will automatically take effect one you enter that content. Not only that but if you don’t like the changes it’s made it keeps a copy of your original settings for you to do a one click restore for. <\/p>\n\n\n

One thing I like about it is it isn’t hiding the impacts it has on your settings, there is a tab that gives you a fairly detailed run down of all the settings each profile changes, so you know how many settings it is tweaking, which it’s tweaking and how much by, this can be useful for modifying your own current settings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During my testing the FPS games were substantial, the best graphics mode dropping my FPS by around 10 but the balance setup gaining me around 100 FPS and the essentials gaining over 200 FPS. So if you find yourself having FPS issue then give Peavers Performance a try!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peavers also has a large ecosystem of other addons to check out, such as keeping a log of who you recently played with to suggestions your best consumables and making them fast to find on the auction house. <\/p>\n\n\n

Zygor Guides<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

12.1 is a massive patch with tons of new content to work through, a new campaign, new zone, new side quests, two new factions and more. Zygor has you covered though as it’s designed to assist you step by step through the various pieces of new and old content you want to tackle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Guide Viewer can be used to load up various guides such as the new Curse of Ula’tek campaign, the Captain Tokka quests or a vast library of old patch and expansion content guides. Loading a give gives you a step-by-step walkthrough of the content, explaining what you need to do and a handy waypoint arrow to instantly lead you in the right direction. It will automatically update when you complete certain steps so you are effortlessly guided through the content. <\/p>\n\n\n

For 12.1 specifically, we’ve been adding guides for the new campaign, world quests, reputations, season 2 preys, talents and further updates will continue through the patch and season 2. No more tabbing to multiple other websites to figure out what to do next, Zygor sits in your UI, ready to assist. <\/p>\n\n\n

Zygor does more than just questing though, it can help you expand your collections with mounts, pets, hunter pets, achievements and more. It also offers quality of life such as auto turnin and pickup for quests, auto repairing and selling of junk, recommended talent builds, gear suggestions, gold making and other QOL features. Zygor is a jack of all trades addon for your WoW journey. <\/p>\n\n\n

Gear Insight<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The general idea of Gear Insight is to provide you with a wide range of information that you would usually get from outside of WoW, such as the average stat weights of top end players for your spec, the gear they are running, consumables and more. <\/p>\n\n\n

It can also be adjusted depending on if you are focusing on raiding, high end M_ or more casual M+ farming. It uses real player data so acts as a solid starting point for you to build and progress your character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also has some one additional but useful features, such as telling you the dangerous casts for the M+ dungeon rotation, so that you are prioritising the right spells for interrupts,. It also assists you with gearing with it’s gear planner<\/p>\n\n\n

The visual design and translation of the addon still need improvements but that doesn’t take much away from the general usefulness of the addon<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today in WoW<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Retail WoW now has systems on systems, tons of gearing options and a large list of daily and weekly tasks for you to complete. This means for more variety in your game play but also makes things feel overwhelming or confusing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s where Today in WoW can help take off some of that pressure and it pairs well with Zygor<\/a>. It approaches the problem with a goal tracker. You can import various goal lists from its library and progress through each of the listed tasks to achieve your current goal. It doesn’t provide in-depth detail on how to do the thing, more just telling you what you should be doing<\/p>\n\n\n

That’s where Zygor<\/a> pairs well with this though as you can check your current task on Today in WoW and then search for the related guide on Zygor<\/a> to have a detailed step by step run down on completing the current task.

The kind of goals you can expect to find will be things like your priority for content for 12.1, a week 1 and week 2 gearing guide, knocking out your weekly tasks such as filling the great vault and even killing all the rares on the Coiled Isle for the day for a chance at the new mounts, BoA gear and currency.<\/p>\n\n\n

You aren’t just limited to the goals available in it’s library either, you can import your own created goals or import other goal setups created by the community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So if you’re someone who finds figuring out what you should be doing from patch to patch daunting, then Today in WoW may be of interest to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CursorTrail<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

CursorTrail is a fairly simple addon compared to the rest of the list but it solves a problem I experience and that might be the case for you too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

World of Warcraft’s spell effects at times can be overwhelming, the visual noise makes it difficult to see your tiny little metal hand waving around on the screen. CursorTrail is designed to assist with that. <\/p>\n\n\n

It lets you add shapes, colours, shadows and animated effects to your cursor to make it instantly easy to spot through everything happening on a fight. Although the changes you make to your mouse cursor don’t need to be so dramatic either, you can change smaller things such as the scale, opacity and effects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It comes with a ton of customisation so that you can have a comically large glowing cursor or something that just about stands out without becoming its own eyesore. <\/p>\n\n\n

If you find yourself thinking “where is my cursor??” then CursorTrail is a small quality of life improvement that makes a big difference when it’s needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Warband Nexus<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you’re an altoholic then an addon like Warband Nexus is a bit of a necessity in todays version of the game. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s your all in one index and manager for your characters. Don’t remember which character has a certain item in it’s bags? Not sure if the BOE you just looted would be an upgrade for your Mage? Can’t remember if you capped your Warriors vault for the week? Well Warband Nexus helps answer all those questions without you having to log in and out constantly between characters. <\/p>\n\n\n

You can track gear, bags, banks, currencies, professions, lockouts, weekly vault and more. So now without logging onto your Mage, you can just pull up it’s character sheet in Warband Nexus to see exactly what it has currently equipped and never having to see the character select screen to do it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s also a planner section, this lets you setup to-do lists for various aspects of content, from collection to professions or your current weekly content goals. This also helps if you constantly have plans for things you want to do but end forgetting, now just log it in the planner and you’ll never forget! <\/p>\n\n\n

WoW has become a lot alt friendly in a lot of ways but the busy work has also increased, Warband Nexus helps make it more manageable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spell Pilot<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you find yourself struggling to remember aspects of your class outside of the core rotation, such as buff up keep, defensives when you’re low or noticing your interrupt is available, then Spell Pilot is worth a look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It gives you a moveable icon box that you can scale, this will show one single action that it thinks is of the highest priority for you to consider using currently, so at the start of combat this might be applying Hunters Mark or when you drop below 50% it may flash your main defensive CD or a health potion. <\/p>\n\n\n

People underestimate addons like this as a crutch, but the goal is to build habits, get you to be consciously thinking about applying buffs before combat, using defensives when you’re in danger or just keep an eye on your interrupt CD. Once you learn to press them naturally, then you can move on to using them more optimally but just learning to press them when they are needed is step one. <\/p>\n\n\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

I especially like addons like this when I’m learning a new class or spec, you already have a lot on your plate with focusing on mechanics while trying to perform your core actions that aren’t muscle memory yet, so just having this extra reminder is useful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hopeful Mention – AmbientLFG<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This addon isn’t one I’m recommending to use now and that may never become the case because the addon just didn’t live up to my expectations. However if it ever does reach that level then it’s something I could see become a vital addon in my setup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The addon is designed to make finding a group for M+, Raids etc less hassle. It won’t signup for you but you are meant to be able to setup criteria of the group you’re looking for. So let’s say you’re after a specific raid boss or a specific dungeon\/key level. You’d add your criteria to the addon and it will automatically check the group finder for you and notify you when new groups appear that meet your criteria. <\/p>\n\n\n

To me this would making the whole pugging process infinitely better because part of the process I hate is just sitting and staring at the group finder until new groups pop up for me to apply to. If I could do some mount farming or even tab out and get some other work done while it’s searching that would vastly improve my pugging enjoyment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However in its current state the automated searching breaks fairly often and when it does work it doesn’t seem to accurately read the listed groups. I gave it the most basic of tests, just find me a +15 key, however +15 keys would come and go without the addon saying a word. I only got it to successfully notify me once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I still wanted to include it though because the core idea is excellent and I really want them to update it in the future because it would be an easy recommendation for me IF it ever works as proposed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
