    Errr WTH?

All my gear is at least 515 (a lot 553) except shoulders which is 482. it suggested that I do a heroic 42lvl dungeon, for a drop of 462 shoulders which drops everything down greatly except mastery which goes up one point. shows no other advice for any of the other gear.... nada... nothing. Really, I love your guilds and if you look at my account I have been with you guys for a LONG TIME, but troops this sucks.

I've noticed the guide suggesting lower item level gear than what you have equipped. My theory is that with stat squish, re-itemization, and different stats on gear, the items from level 90 are favouring stats rather than brute iLevel.

For example, if you are "stat-starved" for the new stats because the new itemization removed Hit or Expertise and did not give you Multistrike, the guide will try to find Multistrike even if the item is lower.

My guess is that if you were to level a brand new character or once you start leveling 90-100, this issue will go away. I further posit that this problem exists right now only for raid gear equipped level 90 characters.

But that is just my theory.

The Zygor team are aware of this:

I also suspect the item squish to be the cause of this as one point in one stat may now confuse the whole weighting system.

On this note, I wonder how the gear guide works. Since I don't know, this is how I would make it work:
        1. If iLevel on new gear is higher by => 2 (because one iLevel is hardly worth it) then select new gear no matter what.
        2. If iLevel on new gear => 0 and <= 1 then assess secondary stats rather than iLevel or primary stats.
        3. if iLevel on new gear <= 0 compared to existing gear it is not an upgrade no matter what.

I don't know if the item level affects what the gear advisor tells you to do.
The guide will calculate a value for the item depending on the stats it has.
How the stats are wighted can be seen in the ItemScore.lua file (and it's possible to see them when the window of the gear suggestion is open - I think it's a rightclick on the cogwheel to create a bug report, the tooltip should tell).

Numbers 1 and 3 just wouldn't work. What if the higher ilvl item is not appropriate for the class or spec? And even if it is appropriate there are many times when something of a lower ilvl is better suited due to the stats on it. In the game ilvl only has value if you need it to enter a raid or dungeon and that can be accomplished by carrying it in your bags. Ilvl does not make you hit or tank any better, only the stats on an item do that.

ilevel is just a fluff number. In practical terms, it has no meaning.

The gear guide looks at pure stats, assessing what is right for your class and spec, and upgrading accordingly.
