Step 5 tells me to talk to Grizzled Frostwolf Veretan, But I am alliance, he is hostile to me so I kill him and nothing happens. I assume horde only treasure

Only a Horde can start the mini-event. As an Alliance player you can hang back and wait for a Horde toon to run up and start up the mini-event. Then you just help with the waves that come in (don't kill the veteran) and once all waves are finished off (I think it was just 3 waves) you can then kill the veteran and go into the hut he stands in front of to get the treasure. There's a similar one in Shadowmoon Valley that only Alliance can start but Horde can help with and then get the treasure when it's done.
