    Realm Maintenance

    So why don't Blizz simply say the maintenance is going to go until 5pm or some such?

    We will be performing scheduled maintenance on Tuesday, July 20th. Maintenance will begin at 01:00 AM PDT and conclude at approximately 9:00 AM PDT. During this time, all realms and many web services will be unavailable.

    You missed the one, they're now saying 1:00pm. I'm starting to really get tired of these 10+ hour maintenance days that are occurring more frequently. I'm not getting reimbursed by them for missing 2 days worth of play time every month.

      Don't forget the frequent loss of connection to server.

      Me suspects they have to few servers running too many realms - at least the pattern is consistent with quite a few cases like that I have seen during my career in IT.

          They're probably implementing things for Cataclysm behind the scenes, which I'm sure is the reason for the prolonged maintenance times, unfortunately.

            They have been talking about authentication maintenance for several hours now. I wonder if it is to stop things like I saw last night. There was about 50 level one human warlocks in downtown Stormwind. They were all about 15 yards off the ground and standing or laying dead to spell out something. As a human on a horse I could not jump high enough to get but a body's length away from them. I watched for about 2-3 minutes while the toons slowly just disappeared without falling to the ground. No clue how long they were there but they were in a perfect line if you moved to look down the long edge.

                I have been watching all day, yes I am a looser for trying to play ... but have/had the day off. The only things for the expansion were on limited realms, of which mine was not one.

                So my realm does not fall into the 24hr "Extended Realm Maintenance" but instead fall into the "Scheduled Realm Maintenance":
                Authentication maintenance is still being performed and we're working to bring realms undergoing normal maintenance back online as soon as possible. We anticipate this process will be complete and that those realms will be live and playable by approximately 3:00 PM PDT.

                I guess next week my realm will be down for the extended maintenance. All I know is with 14+ hours and counting on a weekly maintenance I sure do not look forward to a planned 24hr window. What will that take? 48 hours?

                  That is one (more) advantage to living in Europe. We get the maintenance day on Wednesdays - after Blizzard has ironed out the bugs Tuesday in the Americas

                  I hope they work a bit on stability - getting disconnected ever so often is starting to get to me. I'd happily sacrifice several hours on that altar

                  Getting rid of gold spammers/hackers - I'd be glad to stay offline for a whole week for that, if that was what it would take.

                  Apart from that, I'm seriously impressed with some of the things the hackers come up with.

                    I know I saw in their Q&A transcript that they expect the talent changes to be live before Cataclysm so hopefully they were doing some behind the scenes stuff for that implementation.
