    Updater Crashes near end of install

    Hi,

    You don't have a subforum for this category of, so I'll put it here. I'm seeing a COM error near the end of the install when updating the guide.

    I've tried completely removing the guide and then reinstalling, which didn't resolve the problem.

    Have you tried to download a fresh copy of the Updater? Also, have you applied any system updates and not done a reboot yet?

      Just tried a fresh updater copy, and have just turned computer on. Still getting the same error.

        Go to your addons folder and delete the 2 Zygor folders. and then go to your saved variables folder and delete the 4 Zygor files and then try again with the updater.

          Looks like some system DLLs are not properly registered.
          Try reinstalling the dotnet framework.

              Good News!

              Deleting the folders, saved variables files, desktop shortcut to updater, and the updater exe from the addon folder fixed the problem. Which surprised me, I was betting on something lower level because of the COM error with CLSID.

              One thing I am not seeing is the shortcut on my desktop to the updater. Odd. Anyway, I'll keep an eye out in the future, and if I can reproduce the problem I'll let you know what I did to do so.

                The error was caused by the updater trying to make a desktop shortcut.
                But you can easily make a shortcut yourself, just hold the ALT-key while dragging the exe on the desktop.
                Could also be some rights issue if you are using Vista or Win7, don't know if the desktop can be protected by the UAC, at least the starmenu folders are.
