How do you get rid of the background color?

The translucency slider is greyed out in options. How can I make it so that the Zygor has a transparent background rather than the garish gray/black? This used to be possible with the old viewer.

There is no standalone control for the background opacity. You can control the entire guide viewer opacity under Guide Viewer using the Opacity slider. You could also try using mini-mode (click the button under the "X") if you don't like the guide elements and want to strip it down to a minimalist look.

That's pretty disappointing, considering that I used to be able to do this years ago during WotLK. I like for all of my text/chat windows to have transparent backgrounds, so Zygor really sticks out in my UI. Minimal mode isn't really an option as I find the inline text to be essential.

This seems like it would be an extremely easy feature to implement, you guys should really consider it. The guide viewer looks incredibly amateur in its current state.

This has not been adjustable since we released v4 of the guide viewer back with Cataclysm years ago.

What would it take to bring this option back? The guide does kinda take up some screen space for people with sub 24" monitors.

Have you tried using the size scale slider to make the guide viewer smaller? It takes up almost no room on my 1920x1080 resolution.
