The quest guide for the Mechagon into sequence says that you have to complete the quest "Becoming a Friend" in Nazjatar before you can start the Mechagon intro sequence. I confirmed this morning that is not the case. As long as you have the bread crumb quest from Nazjatar to find Gazlowe in the Great Seal, that particular quest is not necessary.
