Pet newb question

While i was leveling i got a notification saying that a rare pet was nearby. I tried clicking on it but it vanished before I could. What would happen if i would had clicked it in time? would it show me where it was? and if yes..can i make that notification last longer?

Normally you only get a notification if you target another player and that player has a pet or mount summoned. It would then give you a notification so you can load the guide to go get that pet or mount for yourself. What probably happened is you had clicked on someone at range that had a pet and then they moved out of range a split second later breaking the target making the pet notification drop. My guess on what happened.
