Skip it, no questions asked. It is 1000000000000000000% not worth your time.
If you have 0 competition and he is up, that is the only way I would even consider doing this quest. The amount of time you will be waiting just for him to spawn you can MORE than make up for with killing mobs in the cave.
Even if he does spawn, you need to get him first since he is an escort, if you don't then you get to wait for 20 minutes there waiting for him to spawn again.
Assuming you do get him, unless the mobs around you are gray, you are going to have one hell of a time getting him through there. Between people training mobs on you out of frustration and spite, or the mobs themselves mobbing you to death outside.
There is one point where 4 mobs will aggro you at once and any patting will come join the fun too.
After i completed this, i think I wasted a good 35-40 mins on it. #Regret.
