leveling guide leads me to do yellow quests

i am a lvl 19 human paladin and opened the redridge mountains 18-22 leveling guide.

leveling guide leads me to do yellow quests instead of green quests.
I thought green quests were supposed to be faster?

the quest that the guide requires me to do now is farm lvl 19-21 blackrock grunt mobs.
is this really the fastest way of leveling?

Green quests are good to do, but so are yellow quests. Additionally, green enemies are quick to kill, but yellow mobs are usually only a bit more time consuming to kill, but generally offer 1.5x the experience, roughly, of a green mob. The major thing that usually will slow you down a bit, although at times is unavoidable in Classic, is fighting orange mobs. An orange mob here or there is fine, but you don't want to be consistently grinding on orange mobs, as this will slow you down considerably, but green and yellow mobs are generally good. Hope that helps.

So when the guide leads me to a quest that requires me to farm mobs that range from my level to 3 levels above me. I should only fight the mobs that are my level right? I should try avoid the mobs that are above my level correct?

That depends on your class and what you are able to handle. If you can handle a mob that's 1 or 2 levels above you then go for it.

I play a warrior, your level 17-18 loch modan guide wants me to do level 18-19 quests when there are yellow level 15 quests, it makes no sense for me to go spirit running back a hundred times trying to grind mobs 2 levels over me. Before the latest update I had no issues with the guide now it is just a time waster that leaves me with big repair bills

If you play a class that doesn't solo as easily, and you are having trouble, we recommend running dungeons to get 2 levels higher than the guide wants you to be.

While a fan of the guides, I have to agree with the OP. The guide knows what class and level I am. It should not send me to places where my progress will drop to a crawl. For example, I am playing a fresh lvl 52 ret pally. The guide has me going to Un'Goro crater. As the lowest DPS class in the game, killing mobs 2-3 levels above me is kinda silly to attempt. I would have much preferred to be redirected to other zones to grind or specific dungeons to run to get the added levels needed to successfully, and reasonably complete quests in Un'Goro.

It's not really feasible to create specialized leveling guides for each individual class in the game. The best thing we can recommend, if you find things getting too difficult for you, is to run some dungeons to gain a level or two, and potentially get some better gear to make you stronger. Since the leveling experience can vary wildly between the classes, the times when you may want to do that is something you need to determine for yourself along the way, just with how things "feel" for you.

In the end, Classic seemed to be designed with the assumption that players would take breaks from questing to do dungeons along the way. I suspect that's why there aren't enough quests to get to level 60 by purely questing, without having to grind. Doing dungeons will likely slow your leveling speed down a bit, but the trade off is that it can be very fun and enjoyable. Make some friends, get some shiny new gear, take a break and change up the pace from mindlessly grinding quests. Hope that helps.

In theory I agree that running dungeons can provide the XP and levels needed to move through current questing content if slightly weaker then the content. But saying "run dungeons" is not really all that simple in classic. LFG is looking for mostly 55+ (compared to my level as an example). Spent an hour last night trying to get into BRD and was constantly rejected. Very frustrating.

I've been a WoW player for over 12 years. I know how things work. Just making a suggestion to consider telling guide users in game to move to dungeons for a while or to go to zone X and grind out mobs until you reach a level better capable of handling the zone you need to be in next. The guide does this in other areas, just not consistently.

Consistency is key. The same applies to suggestions for vendoring, banking, destroying unneeded items, AND taking time to train skills to make it a more autopilot experience. I applaud the improvements Zygor has made with respect to these aspects, but there's still a lot of work to be done.
