In a display of what can only be described as showmanship (given the fact that we can probably count on one hand the number of people who haven't dabbled in World of Warcraft at this point), Blizzard has announced that the coming of WoW's patch 4.2 will also herald the arrival of something known as the World of Warcraft Starter Edition.

That's right, now that the Rage of the Firelands is upon Azeroth, the Alliance and Horde are going to need all the help they can get. Thankfully, the free trial -- which previously spanned 14 days -- now lasts indefinitely, though trial players are capped at level 20 until they purchase the full game. Do note that the Starter Edition does not include Cataclysm content but does include some Burning Crusade content such as the ability to roll Blood Elves and Draenei. And for those who decide to upgrade, the World of Warcraft Battle Chest (which includes vanilla WoW and The Burning Crusade expansion) is on sale for a paltry $19.99.

Environment
In the Molten Front subzone The Furnace pets will sometimes despawn when walking across doorways.In the Firelands subzone The Molten Flow lava textures are not displaying on the minimap.

PC/UI
Worgen in Gilnean form will play the human version of /laugh, /cry, and /taunt instead of the Gilnean version.Tauren sit lower in the saddle than previously. Emotes (including the new reading emote displayed upon opening your map/quest log) can cancel some channeled spells. The Raid frames UI are not able to display the amount of stacks of a debuff if the amount is 10 or more.Running DX11 and adjusting the camera angle in certain locations can cause the screen to turn black.

Quests
Malmortis will continue to follow you even after you have completed the quest "Disclosure".If you disconnect during the quests "Into Constant Earth" or "Into Unrelenting Flame" you will not able to complete or turn in the quests.If you disconnect after filling the progress bar for the quest "Elemental Bonds: Patience" you will lose the progress bar and will have to drop and reaccept the quest to proceed.If you disconnect during the quest "The Nordrassil Summit" you will be stuck in a cinematic phase and will have to relog to regain control of your character. If you relog during the Plants vs. Ghouls quests you will not be able to complete the current quest you are on. To continue you will have to drop and reaccept the quest.If you are nearby Neutral Goblin NPCs during a Deathwing attack your reputation with those factions can be decreased. There are various issues with progression if you change faction while in the middle of Twilight Highlands quest chains. If you abandon the quest "Need… Water… Badly…" the escort NPC will not reset until its action are complete. During the quest "Desire" Thrall will not always be facing Varian during the vision.Pets will run into the lava to attack Ragnaros during the quest "The Firelord". Some of the chat bubbles in the cutscene for the quest "The Nordrassil Summit" are centered on the screen and block your view of what's happening.Zone bound items for quests will give an error message if you log into the game from a zone other than the one the item is supposed to be used in.If you trigger a cutscene while in a vehicle the cutscene will be skipped.

Raids & Dungeons
If you trigger a cutscene while in a vehicle the cutscene will be skipped.AOE reticles and effects are not displaying properly in Cho'gall's room in The Bastion of Twilight.During the Sapphiron encounter in Icecrown Citadel you will sometimes be hit by Sapphiron's Frost Breath even when you're standing behind an Ice Block. It is possible to fall through Nefarian's platform using Blink.

Items
A BOE item that is Soulbound to you via the Bind on Need system will not have a trade timer on it.Archaeology node tooltips are using incorrect skill-up colors.Some trinkets received in Firelands (Apparatus of Khaz'goroth, Necromantic Focus, Vessel of Acceleration, and Matrix Restabilizer) are displaying incorrect stat values in their buff and item tooltips, the values applied are correct.Heirloom items are colored white in their tooltips

Combat & PVP
Pets will move to their path location where combat started after combat ends when the "Move To" order is issued before attacking a target.Pets are not re-summoned after leaving a Flight Path.Having a pet while you have guardians active, can result in strange behavior (attacks starting and stopping, changing targets, etc). You are unable to participate in War Games if you are flagged for XP-off.The tooltip for Mages' Arcane Missiles does not display the correct proc chance.Honor points were capped at 4000 for 4.2.0, if you had more than that it was converted to gold.

Live 4.2 Patch Notes updated June 28th

General
Players with a copy of the original World of Warcraft who had not yet upgraded to The Burning Crusade have had their accounts upgraded to access the content and features of The Burning Crusade expansion at no additional cost.

Currency
All existing Conquest Points in the Currency tab have been converted to Honor Points. All Honor Points exceeding the 4,000 point cap have been converted into gold at a rate of 35 silver per point and mailed to characters.

Occu'thar
This boss will be available with the start of Season 10, one week after the release of patch 4.2.

Guilds
Guilds of level 3 or above may no longer be disbanded. Guild leaders wishing to leave a guild will need to promote another member to Guild Master first.

During maintenance the change that was intended to be applied for the start of Season 10 next week, which was to cap Honor Points at 4000 and convert any points above the cap to gold, was inadvertently applied early. This means that everyone who would have down-converted Conquest to Honor over the 4000 cap had those additional points converted to gold at a rate of 35 silver per point and sent to them via in-game mail.

We’re still researching what steps led to the error, but unfortunately due to the nature of the currency conversion that took place, we’ll be unable to reverse the change, remove the delivered gold, or reinstate the surplus Honor Points.

We apologize greatly for this error.

Blackwing Descent
Atramedes's Sonar Pulses are properly moving toward raid members when spawned underneath him.
Firelands
Fiery Blood from Fire Scorpions now only affects other Fire Scorpions and Giant Fire Scorpions.
Fire Turtles should no longer keep players in combat after their pack is killed.
Items
Alliance and Horde Guild Battle Standards cannot be used inside the Firelands raid.
Both Faldren Tillsdale and Jamus'Vaz (Valor Point vendors) now display items grouped together in the following manner: rings, necks, bracers, relics, ranged weapons, thrown weapons, then tier sets.
The Severed Visionary Tentacle is no longer infinitely applying to characters.
Quests & Creatures
Elemental Bonds Quest Chain
Aggra's bubble is now significantly larger and has a sparkle effect, making it easier for players to locate her when on the quest Elemental Bonds: Desire.
Players should be able to see Therazane and turn in the quest Into Constant Earth while at any stage of Deepholm progression without issue.

Druids
Feral druids can now use Skull Bash in the Firelands raid. It only seems fair.




Dungeons & Raids
Baradin Hold
Eye of Occu’thar damage and health is now properly scaled for 10- and 25-player versions of the dungeon.

Blackwing Lair
All Brood Affliction debuffs applied by Chromaggus are now removed after zoning out of Blackwing Lair.

Firelands
The stationary Hell Hound pack at the front of the dungeon should no longer cause players to become stuck in combat.
There are now fewer Hell Hounds before Beth’tilac, making the engagement a little less… hellish.
Beth’tilac and her offspring now have increased health and damage on Heroic difficulty.
Rageface’s Face Rage is now slightly less rageful, as the increase of the rate of damage per tick has been reduced.
Creatures linked to Shannox will now respawn every 4 hours until he is killed, up from 2 hours.

Zul’Gurub
High Priest Venoxis and Zanzil have had the damage of many of their spells and abilities reduced.

Items
Cauldron of Battle and Big Cauldron of Battle no longer lose flask charges from repeated clicks when players already have one in their inventory.
Eternal Embers dropped in the Firelands raid now bind when picked up. Master Looters are only able to give Eternal Embers to players who are on the quest All-Seeing Eye.
Paladin tier 12 2-piece set bonus: It should no longer be possible to get a double proc of Flames of the Faithful.
Many item procs were not being triggered properly by melee auto attacks after a hotfix made yesterday. This has been corrected.
Holiday Rewards
Satchel of Chilled Goods, Keg-Shaped Treasure Chest, Heart-Shaped Box, and Loot-Filled Pumpkin will no longer remain in character inventory once the associated holiday is over. Players must loot the items from these caches before the corresponding holiday ends. More information can be found here.

The Ring of Valor
There is no longer a 6-second delay on the rising of the pillars after the match has begun.

Quests & Creatures
It is no longer possible to complete some daily quests more than once a day by turning them in during a small window before the standard reset time.
