5.1 looting bug?

I've just started a new Draenei Paladin and I'm finding quite frequently that I can't loot mobs that I've just killed. They don't sparkle and right-clicking does nothing. However - if they are skinnable I can still skin them!

It's weird killing something and then trying to loot it but skinning it instead - anybody else seen this? It only appears to be happening on this new char.

If it goes straight to skinning then that means there's nothing on the mob to loot. I've seen this in the starting areas where only maybe half the mobs actually have something to loot.

That would explain it - this is the first new char I've started for a while so haven't really been in the starting areas for long.
