    Arrow is slow to update?

When I am killing things the guide is telling me to kill the arrow's number left to kill is sometimes several behind and only seems to update based on a timer?

Same when I turn in quests sometimes, it seems to be slow to notice I turned in a quest. Is this normal? I don't remember this being an issue before.

Are you having any ping issues with the game server? All of the information (for addons) for what you are doing is coming from the server and not the client so if there is any lag going on with the server sending back info it could cause this.

Nope, no lag. Just the arrow seems to update based on some sort of timer instead of live. It's mostly affecting kill/collect quests where there are multiple items to get and I get them fast or something it sometimes takes 10-30 second to update the count. If I complete or turn in a quest it moves on properly though.

Does it keep track in the step without the delay?

Trying to explain this the best I can. Say it tells me to kill 10 raptors. I kill 3 and it still says I need like 8-9 more until it magically updates seemingly on a timer. The guide window updates just fine, just the arrow's text seems delayed, or slow to update.

This is caused by you being in combat. Blizzard is very picky about what is allowed to be updated when your character is in combat. It's part of their fight against botting. We have to wait until Blizzard tells us you are no longer in combat before we can try to update the numbers on the arrow. So if you are killing things one right after another quickly without leaving combat (or only out of combat for a second before entering again) then we can't update the arrow info. The info in the viewer is able to be updated because that is only requesting an update of the quest objective as reported by Blizzard but the arrow is getting it's info from the viewer and not directly from Blizzard so it's not allowed to be updated during combat. It's a bit complicated but you should only really see this kind of a delay in information with the arrow when you are in combat and it should get updated shortly after leaving combat.

Hmmm ok, so there's no way you guys can work around that? I mean it's more of a cosmetic minor annoyance than anything but it can be confusing at times.

Not really. I believe Blizzard considers the arrow to be a button and doesn't allow buttons to be updated during combat. That is to prevent addons from creating a one button skill rotation.

Ok, it's just odd that even when out of combat for a few seconds it sometimes does not update until I'm either in combat again or right after the next combat or two. It's just it seems timer based. O.o

I think we have a couple second delay in there to ensure that you are truly out of combat. There had been times in the past when addons would be told a toon was out of combat but it really wasn't.

I still am finding this hard to cope with. I mean I don't know why the arrow cannot stay in sync with the guide's text. I feel if it can update then the arrow should be able to somehow pull data from it and update just as fast and on time like it does. Not only would it feel and look better it would just be better and more professional if this could be sorted somehow. Thanks.

We have to work within the limitations that Blizzard sets before us. If we try to do things that Blizzard doesn't want us to do when you're in combat then you'll start getting tons of LUA errors and WoW will disable the guide viewer forcing you to re-enable it again once you're out of combat.

I know that but I was thinking like maybe the guide setting internal variables and the such as the steps are completing and the arrow reading from them for updates. Or another method of maybe the arrow reading the guide text to determine the current progress. I'm sure there has to be ways around whatever limitation you guys may have found.

If we start messing around and trying to make things do what Blizzard doesn't want them to do then we put all of our customer's accounts at risk of being banned. That is something we will not do. If we would be able to find a way to safely make changes to the arrow during combat that Blizzard will be happy with then we would do it.
