Can't select guide

I have installed the Horde guide and when I first start up my character I get the following error:

Then when I close that, it says I need to select a guide. I click the button and can see all the guides available, but it won't let me select one. I mean I can click on them but they don't stay selected.

Redownload and install the guide again.

Redownloading and installing worked great for being able to select the correct guide. However, I know get the error that the guide cannot connect to Cartographer even though it is loaded. The messages that appear in chat are:
Zygor Guides Viewer: failed to connect to Cartographer 2
Zygor Guides Viewer: waypointaddon_detecting
Zygor Guides Viewer: waypointaddon_notdetected

One other thing that I just noticed...whenever I log off and back on, my guide has started over at the first quest. Is it suppose to do this? It's a real pain if so.

No, it's not supposed to re-start at the first quest.

For cartographer issue, double check in the cartographer options that waypoints are enabled.

Well, only thing left is to try to see if any other addons are interfering with it. Disable all addons and then only enable the 2 Zygor addons, Cartographer, Cartographer Notes, and Cartographer Waypoints. If it starts working with just these 5 addons then you know it's one of the other ones causing issues. At this point you just slowly enable each addon again one at a time until the error pops up again and then you'll know which addon is causing problems.
