Loyalty Offer Ending On September 30th. Don’t Miss Out!

Loyalty-Discount

When Zygor Elite was first introduced late last year we knew it was a big change and that some long time users might be unsure whether to stick with the one time fee model or to switch to Elite. To make Elite more enticing (and as a way of saying thanks for past years of support) we introduced a limited time Loyalty Discount of $4.99 /per month for anyone who had purchased a standalone guide before Elite was launched. Since some users already owned all our guides and had no need for Elite yet we decided to offer the Loyalty Discount through the first month of Legion when the all guides would be getting new upgrades.

Take note: the Loyalty Discount will be ending on Friday, September 30th. If you have not yet upgraded to Elite and want to take advantage of this discount you may want to consider signing up before the September 30th cutoff. After that date the Loyalty Discount will no longer be offered and if you want to upgrade your guides you will either need to sign up for Elite at the regular price of $7.99 per month, or purchase the standalone upgrades.

This will not affect anyone who is already signed up with the Loyalty Discount. Your subscription cost will not be changing as long as you keep an active subscription.

Wait a minute. Does this mean that you are no longer honoring the free updates for people who purchased your guides before you came up with this ‘elite’ deal? I find that totally unfair, particularly considering the amount of money that I’ve already paid to purchase all of these guides in the first place, with the understanding that all upgrades would be free. This ‘elite’ thing is probably a great deal for people just signing on, but for those of us who have already forked out a couple hundred dollars purchasing these guides, it seems to be a rip-off. If you really want to give us a deal, give us credit for the money we’ve already spent purchasing these guides. Then, in a few years, when the credit runs out, we can start paying your monthly fee. Now that would be a fair deal.

Zygor has always charged for new expansion content, and I’m sure they’ll continue to offer [infrequent] updates to correct errors in the current guides. What they’ve done – even though every survey they took from us said we didn’t want it, is to drop the one time guide upgrade fee and go to the monthly subscription method. When they start getting a ton of dropped subscriptions once people have leveled up, perhaps they’ll reconsider. Hmm. $50/$60 for an upgrade or $16 for two months of subscription?

To clarify, there are two ways we sell our guides: Standalone purchase and the newer Elite subscription model. The standalone purchases are sold “by expansion”. So, say you bought when Warlords of Draenor came out. You would get all the content up to Draenor and updates to that portion of the content would be free. If you wanted to add the newer Legion content to your collection you could do so for a standalone upgrade fee. This is how it has always been since Zygor first began. Nothing is changing there.

When we introduced the Elite subscription we included a special offer for folks on the standalone purchase model who were considering making the switch to the Elite model. Normally, Elite costs $7.99, but we offered a special Loyalty Discount of $4.99 to customers who bought a standalone guide before December 10th, 2015. This is what is ending on September 30th. In other words, this is the last chance to sign up for the subscription at the discounted price.

It sure sounds like it is changing. I understand that new expansion guides still have/had to be purchased. But from what you said in the original post, it sounds like you are no longer going to provide the occasional updates (for free) to the guides that we already purchased, unless we join your new program. That is not the agreement that was in force when I purchased my guides. All updates were to be free. (Not the expansion updates.) Since I have several characters of all different levels, since I like to occasionally go back and play at lower levels, I planed to be using your guides for more than just leveling. Because of this, I would be using them for quite a while. The expansions don’t come out every year, but even with your discount, we would be paying as much per year as it would cost us to purchase an expansion. So, if we already have all the other guides, where’s the savings there?

On a side note, I find it interesting that since making my original post, suddenly when I click on my Zygor Guide updater, it’s coming up saying “Verion – N/A, Upgrades – N/A” like I don’t even have the guides now. Funny timing, huh?

The “Loyalty Offer” mentioned in this post is the promotion offered to customers from December 10th, 2015 and before that allows them to sign up for the Elite subscription service at a discounted price. “Lifetime updates” is what you’re referring to and that isn’t changing at all. You’ll still get lifetime updates for guides you already own (excluding expansions).
