Updater connection issues

Lately I tend to have some connection issues when checking for updates of the guide.

The updater gets a HTTP connection time out when checking if updates are available.
The Zygor website itself can be accessed normally.

Is this a known issue?
Is there a way to check the update server itself?

If it was the server we'd have tons of reports like this. Do you have any anti-virus or firewall software that might be causing an issue?

The problem isn't consistent, most of the time I can connect without problems, but some times the connection times out.
I do have a firewall (given the state of the internet having one is almost mandatory, but it doesn't have any strict rules).

Is there a way to verify the connection manually (either by browsing to an url in a a browser or doing a ping or traceroute)?

The connection issue of earlier today has been resolved though.

It might be a time of day issue. I notice that our forums and support section seem to respond really slow in the mornings (EST) compared to afternoon and evening.
