Can i still get Rusted proto drake by doing the events for a year even if i dont have

Can i still get the rusted proto drake even tho i dont have epic flyer yet by doing the events all year round? Or do i have to buy epic flyer and then do the events and then after i do them all year i get the mount? Appreciate the replies in advance.

The rusted proto-drake is a reward for the "Glory of the Ulduar Raider" achievement. The events achievement gives a violet one

I would make an educated guess that if you were to get the "What a long, strange trip it's been" achievement for getting all the events achievements without having epic flying, you'd get the Reins of the Violet Proto-Drake, but not actually be able to add it to your collection of mounts. So it could sit in your bank until ready.
