I just hit 85 but got into a rep kick and doing world events.But never got past vash'jir i have not bought the cata upgrade if i did would the guide still take me into other areas like uldum tol avir and such

Yes, if you disable dynamic progress there is no problem following the guide through Deepholm, Uldum and Twilight Highlands to get the quest achievements there.
