is there another supported map mod for the guide, such as TomTom? I am using the Cartographer that came with the DL, and would prefer not to use mods that are no longer maintained. If I can use TomTom, how do I set it up to use the features of the guide?

Yes, you can get rid of Cart and use TomTom.
I have been using it since the 2nd day of 3.3 release with no problems at all.
Works for my toon in Northrend, my toon in Outland, and my two in Eastern Kingdom / Kalimdor.

Delete Cartographer and install TomTom. Then go in game, click the Z icon on the mini map, click ZygorGuideViewer on the left to expand the options, and set the waypoint addon to TomTom.
