New client update notification visual error

The new client, version 2.1.39 just notified me that there was a client update. This is not to be confused with an update to the guides.

When I opened the client, the whole thing was blurry and unreadable, looking like the blurred effect used to obscure names and pictures on the news.

I could not read my user name, guide list, play button, Games list, or even the client logo at the bottom left.

You can still interract with the client insofar as turning products on or off, but since you can't see what you are clicking, this could cause quite the mess.

The only way to fix the issue was to exit the client (I had it running in the System Tray) and restart it. Now it looks normal and updated to 2.1.40 without further issue.

I should have added that I am on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, Java version 7 Update 67.

No problem here with updating to client 2.1.40 with Win 8.1 64 bit and Java 7 update 71.

Does it always cause the problems when starting the client or was it only the first time you started it after the update and now it works flawlessly even after a system restart?

I've had this happen to me as well. We haven't been able to track down what causes it. Sometimes it will be blurry and I have to exit and restart the client, sometimes it will be perfectly fine. Our client programmer does know about it and has it on his list to see if he can figure out what's causing it.

@Zygor even though you guys haven't found the cause, I'm happy to know I wasn't the only one that saw the issue. Good luck tracking it down!

@Cartman I only got the new client earlier this week, and its installed version was 2.1.39; usually I don't leave it running in the background, so this was entirely new. And correction to your question: I did not do a system reboot, just a restart of the client. And thanks for the head's up about the Java update.

I was asking about the system reboot because it's possible that you can reproduce the problem that way if the client works after closing and restarting it.
Sometimes such problems only occur once after a reboot and if you don't shut down your system completely (Windows 8 does not normally completely reboot for example, it uses suspend to RAM and disk) you won't see the problem for a while.
