My guide has been trying to update for nearly a week saying...Checking....

Nothing else happens. I have uninstalled and re-installed a few times this week. The same thing.

Try right clicking on the small Z icon in the task bar tray (far right side) near the date/time and select Exit. Then use the desktop shortcut to restart the client.
