I've seen this twice now, I'll share the step in the Threads of Fate guide, but it happens in the main bastion guide, too:
Step 71 has you pick up Andira, step 72 has you get Gatamatos, and then do some questing in the area.
Gatamatos goes 'haywire' in a lot of awkward ways, you don't want him with you when questing (he can even aggro a half dozen mobs at once). All the quest steps you do with the Anima Drainer / Antlers should be done first, then get Gatamatos & return him to the quest giver.
