I was thinking about the whole "I am level 68, I can go to Northrend", but in the end i decided that "they know what they're doing, follow the guide". I didn't take that long to reach level 70. I'm unrested pretty much so I was averaging 2hr - 2hr 30 to reach both 69 and 70, although it's not that accurate since more often than not, i sit in the inn, still logged in while i go off for a 5-10 minute break.
I'd say just go with what guide says, these guys know what they're doing. Besides, if you quest 2 levels earlier, you might get to 78 when the guide begins to run out, and you have difficulty finding quests, then you've got to go find them yourself.
