I find it hard to see the ore in the mini-map because the arrow on the path will cover over it sometimes. Is there a way to make the arrow translucent or very very small so as not to block out the ore?

Not right now. One thing I know that works is if you have the Carbonite addon you can set the guides to use the Carbonite arrow and then it won't draw those mini map markers.My Flight Path Follies guide
