One of the best ways to do what Dudeafool suggested is with a macro.
/pet attack
/cast curse of elements
With this you can target a mob and hit the macro. while your pet gets the targeted mobs attn, you can target another mob, then hit the macro again. I have found this does 2 things for me; first the pet gathers the mobs as your tank, second it puts on a very valuable curse for the HoG and RoF to have max effect.
It is also a great macro to use in an instance/raid with you pet on passive, to avoid any of the unwanted pet attacks on any other mob than what you want to kill.
